Dick Howell

Richard John Howell (October 12, 1903 – July 20, 1967) was an American competition swimmer who represented the United States at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.
He was born in Chicago and died in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
In the 1924 Olympics he swam for the gold-medal-winning American relay team in the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay. After helping the American relay team to qualify for the final, he was replaced by Johnny Weissmuller. Because he did not swim in the event final, he did not receive a medal. In the semi-finals he was part of the team which improved the world record and broke ten-minute barrier in the event for the first time.
Howell also competed in the 1,500-meter freestyle; qualified for the semi-finals but did not advance.
